Mahmoud ElAssir is Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at UnitedHealth Group. In this role, he leads the Group Technology Infrastructure, Platform and Services including Corporate Systems. He and 8,000 people on his team are responsible for the modernization of their legacy and on-prem landscape with a thoughtful migration to the cloud to help create more flexibility for speed and stability for end users. They are also responsible for modernizing the Omni platform transforming members, patients and advocates experience for 70k agents handling over 300M calls across 250 lines of business.

ElAssir brings two decades of technology and digital transformation expertise across telecommunications, financial services, and healthcare, rooted in zero distance, consumer-first thinking. His expertise includes technology/product engineering, data and AI/ML strategy, large-scale platforms, Cloud and Security.

Prior to this role, ElAssir held senior roles at Google and Verizon and has served as an advisor for several technology and software firms. While at Google, he led cloud transformations for their largest strategic accounts, and under his leadership, the division led the transformation of strategic customers globally across telecommunications, financial services, healthcare, retail, automotive, and travel industries. At Verizon, he most recently led the acceleration of innovation and use of world-class, next-gen cloud and infrastructure capabilities, enterprise architecture, data platforms, and digital workplace. During this time, he reshaped the technology strategy for the company, including leading the Verizon journey to the cloud.

ElAssir holds a bachelor’s degree in computer and communications engineering from the American University of Beirut and is currently on the advisory board of Tricentis and Quantum Metric. He also serves on the board of the Peck School.
